Shaler Area is 0-6 against the Fightin' Planets since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Shaler Area Titans will head out on the road to face off against the Mars Fightin' Planets at 7:30 p.m. Shaler Area will be strutting in after a victory while the Fightin' Planets will be coming in after a defeat.
Shaler Area had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took their matchup at home on Monday with ease, bagging a 50-14 victory over New Castle. That looming 50-14 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Shaler Area yet this season.
Meanwhile, Mars lost to the River Hawks on the road by a decisive 53-35 margin on Monday. Mars has not had much luck with the River Hawks recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Mars saw an underclassman step up: Alexis Cashdollar almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cashdollar has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mya Moore, who scored four points along with two blocks.
Shaler Area's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13. As for Mars, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.
Shaler Area couldn't quite finish off the Fightin' Planets when the teams last played back in January and fell 45-42. Can Shaler Area avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
