The high school football season in Texas came to a close over the weekend.
Duncanville was among the winners, beating
North Shore (Houston) in the Class 6A Division 1 state championship game. That victory helped propel the Panthers to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
Duncanville (15-0) won its first state championship since 1998, beating No. 2 North Shore 28-21. Junior running back
Caden Durham had three rushing touchdowns and Duncanville head coach Reginald Samples won his first state crown. Since 2018, Duncanville and North Shore have met on the Lone Star State’s grandest stage four times, with the Mustangs winning the previous three.
Coming in at No. 3 is
DeSoto, which finished 14-2 and beat No. 13
Vandegrift (Austin) 42-17 in the Class 6A-II state title game. The Eagles were led all season by junior quarterback
Darius Bailey, who threw for 45 touchdowns and senior wide receiver
Johntay Cook II, who caught 22 TD passes.
Aledo comes in at No. 6 after its 11th state championship. The Bearcats (14-2) took down College Station 52-14.
