Morrill's Ilycia Guerue earned first team All Western Trails Conference honors after scoring 15 points a game, pulling down more than six rebounds and dishing out 3.2 assists per game a year ago. But defense may be where the sophomore hangs her hat throughout her prep career.
Guerue is Nebraska's top returning girl pickpocket after ripping off Lion opposition for 6.2 steals a game a year ago. The Cornhusker State's top swindler on the basketball court, swiped 12 enemy balls in a 37-15 win over Crawford last February, and scored triple-doubles against Hemingford and Kimball when she claimed 11 and 10 enemy passes in those contests, respectively.
In three other contests Guerue posted nine thefts each, guaranteeing she is sure to be a migraine headache for any opposing ball handler fortunate enough to cross her path. Hannah Sheridan of Santee and Ainsworth's Rylee Rice averaged 4.8 and 4.7 steals respectively, a year ago, while Pender's Ashley Ostrand and Allison Hoyt of Hitchcock County round out the Top 5 with about 4.4 steals each.
Class A is the only classification not represented this week. Leading the way in Nebraska's largest class are Ebone Stingley of Omaha North and Papillion-LaVista's Josey Ryan, who averaged 3.1 steals each a year ago.
