Cathedral Catholic has been invited to play in the National High School Invitational. The Dons have a tough one right out of the gate as they take on Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), which starts the season ranked No. 5 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Preseason National Baseball Rankings.
Local outlook: San Diego is home to some of the top baseball teams in the country. The Dons would have been competing for a third-straight Division III championship but instead have been placed in Division I. There they will have to get past the likes of Carlsbad and El Capitan to win a third-straight crown.
Overall outlook: With five Division I prospects taking the mound for the Dons this year, the move up to Division I in the San Diego Section won't be so daunting. The deep staff will keep Cathedral Catholic in every game this year and makes the Dons a favorite to win the National High School Invitational in late March. A win there could lead to an overall national No. 1 ranking.
