Marcus Lester replaced Omar Salih as the starting quarterback at Chavez Academy (Detroit) when Salih transferred to another school. Last week, Lester also nearly replaced Salih in the Michigan High School Football Record Book.
In a 32-28 win over Star International Academy (Dearborn Heights), Lester threw for 609 yards. That's the second-highest total in Michigan history, topped only by the 674 yards Salih compiled against Mayville.
Lester did break a state record, however, as his 75 attempts topped the old total of 74 by Jimmy Osga of Grayling. Lester just missed Osga's record last week when he had 72 attempts.
Alex Austin of Glendale (Springfield, Mo.) didn't set a record this week, but he did complete 42 passes. He now has three of the top four completion totals in state history, according to the RealRay Record Book.
Austin Kafentzis of Jordan (Utah) also found his way into the record books this week as he became the all-time leading passer in Utah history after throwing for 428 yards against Alta. Kafentzis has 10,985 passing yards.
Kiante Enis of Winchester (Ind.) moved into the national lead for rushing yardage and into a tie for first place in points scored. He gained 466 yards last week to give him 1,947 yards on the season. He also is tied with Kellen Overstreet of Penney (Mo.) with 186 points scored.
