Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fayette County). They were the clear victors by a 21-7 margin over the Upson-Lee Knights on Monday. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
E Patton made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Fayette County got a massive performance out of T Lathem, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Lathem has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Taylor, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Fayette County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .540. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Upson-Lee only posted an OBP of .389.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 7-12. As for Upson-Lee, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fayette County will face off against Sandy Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Upson-Lee, they will square off against Flint River Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
