Softball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Lutheran's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Lutheran came out on top against Discovery Canyon on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Lions never let the Thunder get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Discovery Canyon's batters probably weren't too happy with Annie Schroeder, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (she gave up a single walk). Schroeder has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lutheran got a massive performance out of Addie Brightman, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Brightman has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiley Glenn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery Canyon only posted an OBP of .050.

Lutheran is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Discovery Canyon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Lutheran wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 8-7 win against Lewis-Palmer on the 17th. As for Discovery Canyon, they have also already played their next contest, a 9-1 victory against La Junta on the 19th.
