The Laguna Beach Breakers will take on the Grand Terrace Titans at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Laguna Beach sitting on three straight wins and Grand Terrace on nine.
Laguna Beach is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Moorpark 6-4.
Dylan Yencho made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jacob Wicker was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Bear Ward, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Grand Terrace won against Palm Desert on Tuesday with four runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Titans came out on top against Marina by a score of 4-1.
Like Laguna Beach, Grand Terrace also got a great game from a two-way player: Ray Roybal. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Roybal was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Jayden Rivas looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Roybal wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Angelo Douglas, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Douglas has posted since back in March.
Grand Terrace's win bumped their record up to 20-7. As for Laguna Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 19-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Laguna Beach has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Grand Terrace struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
