Video: Top 10 Plays of the WeekVanlue's A.J. Reed didn't make the list but another Ohio player did.Led by a heroic effort from running back
A.J. Reed (59 carries),
Vanlue (Ohio) snapped a 51-game Blanchard Valley Conference losing streak with a 30-26 win over
Arcadia.
Reed, who carried the ball 24 times in the fourth quarter, ran for 296 yards and three touchdowns. His last score was the game-winner with 18 seconds left. It came from 1-yard out. According to the
NFHS record book, that is an Ohio record. It's the fourth highest mark in a game nationally since 1986.
According to the OHSAA website, the state record for rushing attempts in a game is 63 set by Kettering Fairmont's
Cameron Campeau against Springfield South on Oct. 8, 2004. "It wasn’t just me, it was my team," Reed told the
Findlay Courier.
"I didn’t know how much we gave it to him, all I know is we were gaining yards when we did give it to him," Vanlue head coach Jeremy Kloepfer said. "We weren’t going to go away from that. He ran hard, but just as importantly it was like he said, the guys up front blocked for him. It was everybody, everybody had a part. Even the receivers. We’ve been on them for weeks that they had to block at the edge. They were blocking."
Vanlue's last BVC win came Sept. 3, 2010 against
Hardin Northern (Dola, Ohio). The Wildcats beat Hardin Northern in 2012, but that victory was forfeited due to an ineligible player.
