Corona (Calif.) avenged the loss that may have cost it the national championship last year with a 10-1 rout of
La Mirada (Calif.) last week, helping the Panthers maintain their position at No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings.
The only game of the week for the Panthers (4-0), Corona got another standout pitching performance.
Ethin Bingaman, a transfer from Arrowhead Christian, picked up his second win of the season as he allowed one run on one hit. Although Corona gave up its first run of the season after three shutouts, the hit total was the lowest of the season.
Last year, La Mirada knocked Corona out of the No. 1 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25 by beating the Panthers one week after they won the National High School Invitational.
The Corona offense had its biggest outing of the season thus far with 10 basehits, including four for extra bases. All-American candidate
Billy Carlson did the most damage with a double and a home run while
Anthony Murphy added a triple.
The Panthers begin Big VIII League play this week with three games against
Norco before heading to the Boras Classic next week. Corona lost in the final of the event last year to
Mater Dei (Santa Ana).
Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.) moves in after starting the season with 14 straight wins, including back-to-back no-hitters against North Methodist Academy. The Huskies debut at No. 15.

Luke Blanchard had the walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eight for the win.

Venice (Fla.). Two of the top teams in Florida battle today. The Warriors knocked off the Indians 3-1 in last year's meeting. Calvary Christian is ranked No. 3 in the Top 25 while Venice is No. 17.
Hitter of the week: Dylan Wetzel of
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) hit a pair of home runs and drove in six in a win over Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas).

Streaks: Eaton (Colo.) faces its first test of the 2025 season today when it takes on
The Academy (Westminster, Colo.) today in Eaton. According to records maintained by MaxPreps, the two teams have not met in over 17 years. The Reds have a 69-game win streak while The Academy is coming off a 12-11 season.
