The senior has helped the Bobcats to the playoffs after going 16-2 with a 0.75 ERA. In a stretch of six starts between March 31 and May 4, Laster struck out 71 batters over 29 innings.
Walker McDuffie of
Lee County (Sanford, N.C.) is tied for second on the list with 146 strikeouts. The junior is committed to North Carolina and has a 0.79 ERA for the Yellow Jackets. McDuffie hit double-digit strikeouts in every start except one and had a season high 17 Ks on March 17.
Michael Savarese of
Hernando (Brooksville, Fla.) is also tied for second in the nation with 146 strikeouts. Savarese has an 8-1 record with a 0.61 ERA for the Leopards, who reached the Florida regional semifinals. The senior started the season by striking out at least 11 batters in each of his first six starts and has struck out 17 on three occasions.
