The Freedom Falcons suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Liberty at home and fell 57-29. Freedom was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Liberty apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Freedom's loss came despite strong showings from Ariel De La O and Eve Monzon. De La O scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Monzon scored 11 points. That was a full 37.9% of Freedom's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Freedom struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Liberty racked up 16 assists.
It was another big night for Shyanne Smith, who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 2 assists for Liberty. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Perea, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Freedom has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Liberty, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Freedom will take on Pittsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 46.7 so far this season, Pittsburg's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Freedom better be ready for a challenge. As for Liberty, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Antioch at 6:30 p.m. Antioch is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
