Phillip Starks poured in a school-record 59 points as Prince Tech (Hartford, Conn.) outlasted Windham Tech (Willimantic, Conn.), 109-98.
The 5-foot-9 senior guard drilled 25 of 35 shots from the field and nine of 11 from the free throw line while surpassing the previous record of 57 points which was set in 1998 by DelShawn Jackson. Starks averaged 27.4 points and 8.9 assists as a junior while leading the Falcons to state runner-up honors in Class S.
Windham Tech coach Jeff Belanger told the Hartford Courant, "We tried to wear them down, but Phil Starks didn't get worn down."
Christian Gonnelli had a career-high 42 points to go with 12 rebounds in a losing cause.
