The Boyd County Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by St. Mary 83-36. Boyd County has not had much luck with St. Mary's recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Boyd County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mckenzie Snyder. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Drueke, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Alissa Brabec was her usual excellent self, going 11 for 15 from beyond the arc en route to 39 points and 2 assists for St. Mary's. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brabec has scored all season. Lorissa Reiman was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Boyd County dropped their record down to 4-14 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home. As for St. Mary's, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boyd County will take on Niobrara/Verdigre at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Niobrara/Verdigre presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Boyd County in Nebraska (Niobrara/Verdigre is ranked 76th, while Boyd County is ranked 223rd). St. Mary's is on the road again on Thursday and plays West Holt on February 8th. One thing working in St. Mary's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests.
