Hernandez earned MaxPreps California Player of the Year after leading
Corona to a Southern Section Division 1 championship with a victory over
Harvard-Westlake. Hernandez, who was also the MaxPreps National Junior
Player of the Year, led the Panthers on the mound and at the plate as he
had a team-best 9-0 pitching record and a team-high eight home runs.
Corrigan Willis of
Granada (Livermore) was named state Coach of the Year honors after leading the Matadors to the best season in school history. Granada won its first section championship in baseball, defeating perennial champion De La Salle 1-0 in 14 innings. Granada then won the Northern California Division 1 Regional, beating St. Mary's (Stockton) 6-4. Granada finished 32-1 and was ranked No. 5 in the nation in the final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings.
The MaxPreps California All-State Teams consist of 60 players on two
teams. Players are chosen based on postseason awards, statistics, team
finish and recruiting rankings.
