The crowd at Thursday's non-league challenge between the Independence Wildcats (Independence, MS) and the visiting Ashland Blue Devils (Ashland, MS), observed Independence's basketball team edge Ashland by a margin of 57-53.

The Wildcats (13-9) will now prepare for their challenge against Coahoma County (Clarksdale, MS). The Red Panthers come into the 3A Region 2 challenge with a 22-4 record. In their last challenge, Coahoma County edged Rosa Fort (Tunica, MS), 59-38, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Blue Devils battle the Jumpertown Cardinals (Booneville, MS) in a 1A Region 2 challenge, on Friday, January 24. Ashland will attempt to better on its 8-14 season record.
