The crowd at Friday's league challenge between the Southwestern Piasa Birds (Piasa, IL) and the visiting Vandalia Vandals (Vandalia, IL), observed Southwestern's basketball team edge Vandalia by a score of 51-49.

The Piasa Birds (15-11) will now prepare for their challenge against Staunton (Staunton, IL). The Bulldogs come into the South Central challenge with a 22-4 record. In their last challenge, Staunton edged Marquette Catholic (Alton, IL), 39-35, in a non-league challenge.

In their next game, the Vandals encounter the Litchfield Purple Panthers (Litchfield, IL) in a South Central challenge, on Tuesday, February 11. Vandalia will attempt to improve on its 11-15 season record. The Purple Panthers come into the challenge with a 12-15 record after their 62-50 league win over Pana (Pana, IL).
