September 2, 2025: Wilmington, IL 60481 Wilmington Wildcats (Wilmington, IL) boosters left the game thrilled Tuesday as they saw their volleyball squad nudge the visiting Peotone Blue Devils (Peotone, IL), 2-1 in a league test.
With the win, Wilmington upgrades its record to 6-1 on the year. The Wildcats travel to Herscher (Herscher, IL) to face the Tigers in a Illinois Central Eight test on Thursday, September 4. The Tigers go into the test with a record of 2-6. Herscher lost 2-0 in their recent non-league test against Watseka (Watseka, IL)
The Blue Devils now own a 1-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Lisle for a Illinois Central Eight test on Thursday, September 4. Peotone will meet a Lions team coming off a 2-0 league win over Coal City (Coal City, IL). The Lions record now stands at 2-5.
Match Summary
The Lady Cats opened up their conference play against Peotone winning at the varsity and freshman levels. Varsity won 25-17, 21-25, 25-13. Rachel Smith led with 15 kills, 17 digs and 4 aces. Molly Southall also added another 8 kills while having 14 assists and 5 digs. Melia Hincherick was right there with 6 kills, 11 digs and 2 aces. Defensively, Sami Liaromatis had 17 digs and was a great asset at the serving line throwing Peotone off of their passing game. Makenzie Rodriguez put a damper on Peotone's offense with 6 blocks.
