Utah High School Basketball - Lehi trounces Orem
January 10, 2023: Orem, UT 84097 The Lehi Pioneers (Lehi, UT) basketball crushed the host Orem Tigers (Orem, UT), 49-16 in Tuesday's league test.
The Pioneers (8-5) will now prepare for their test against Alta (Sandy, UT). The Hawks go into the 5A Region 8 test with a 0-12 record. In their last test, Alta was trounced by Jordan (Sandy, UT), 72-16, in a league test.
The Tigers now own a 4-7 record. They play next when they host Jordan for a 5A Region 8 test on Friday, January 13. Orem will encounter a Beetdiggers squad coming off a 72-16 league win over Alta (Sandy, UT). The Beetdiggers record now stands at 8-6.
First Quarter
Sammie Love got three easy lay-in baskets in the first quarter and Goose Salisbury hit a 2 and a 3 as Lehi scored 13 points in the period. The Pioneer girls played great defense and held Orem to just 1 foul shot in the quarter.
Second Quarter
Kaleigh Freeman came off the bench and hit three 2-point shots to lead Lehi in a 9- point second quarter. The score going into the second half is 22 to 9 in favor of the Pioneers.
Third Quarter
Lehi's defense held Orem to just 4 points in the third quarter. 5 players scored in the period for Lehi. The score at the end of the third quarter is Lehi 37 and Orem 13.
Fourth Quarter
Nothing changed in the fourth quarter as Lehi held Orem to just one 2-point basket and a foul shot. Ellie Hill and Brynlee Cook each had a 3-pointer fall in the quarter. The final score is Lehi 49 and Orem 16. The Pioneer defense had 11 Steals and 20 deflections in the game and the team pulled down 39 rebounds.
