Fans at Thursday's league challenge between the West Mesa Mustangs (Albuquerque, NM) and the host Sandia Matadors (Albuquerque, NM), saw West Mesa's basketball squad hold off Sandia by a tally of 70-65.

With the victory, West Mesa improves its record to 20-6 on the campaign.

Next up, the Matadors confront the Piedra Vista Panthers (Farmington, NM) in a 5A District 2 challenge, on Friday, February 17. Sandia will attempt to improve on its 20-5 season record. The Panthers come into the challenge with a 2-22 record after their 63-15 league loss to West Mesa (Albuquerque, NM).
