In Saturday's league contest, the host Alexander Central Cougars basketball team scored a good 78-68 triumph over the McDowell Titans.

The Cougars (12-7) will now prepare for their contest against Freedom (Morganton, NC). The Patriots go into the Northwestern 6A/7A contest with a 16-4 record. In their last contest, Freedom topped St. Stephens (Hickory, NC), 64-47, in a league contest.

In their next game, the Titans confront the Watauga Pioneers (Boone, NC) in a Northwestern 6A/7A contest, on Tuesday, February 10. McDowell will attempt to better on its 12-9 season record. The Pioneers go into the outing with a 11-7 record after their 72-59 league win over South Caldwell (Hudson, NC).
