September 19, 2022: Williamsburg, VA 23185 The New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored 3 points and limited the host Jamestown Eagles to 0 in the Trojans league victory on Monday.
The Trojans now possess a 8-4 record. They put it on the line next when they host Poquoson for a Bay Rivers game on Tuesday, September 20. New Kent will meet a Islanders team coming off a 3-1 league win over Tabb (Yorktown, VA). The Islanders record now stands at 6-4.
The Eagles (3-5) will now prepare for their game against Smithfield (Smithfield, VA). The Packers enter the Bay Rivers game with a 4-5 record. In their last game, Smithfield was dropped by Grafton (Yorktown, VA), 3-0, in a league game.
Match Summary
The Lady Trojans defeated the Eagles of Jamestown in straight sets, 25-14, 25-18, 25-16. This was the fourth consecutive New Kent win over Jamestown, but only the fifth in the 21 years since New Kent joined the Bay Rivers District. The Lady Trojans took early leads in the first two sets and never relinquished them, while the Eagles threatened a rally in the third set tieing the game at 7-7 before New Kent moved ahead, managing an 11-1 point run from 10-9 to 21-10 that Jamestown was unable to overcome. Standouts for the match include outside hitters Aubrey Hyndshaw who tallied 11 kills and seven digs and Fallon Greenawalt who added 6 kills, 2 aces, and 4 digs; opposite Lexi Powell who recorded five kills, four aces, two blocks, and seven digs. Setters Mackenzie Loveland and Hannah Perkins directed the offense contributing 14 and 7 assists respectively, with Loveland adding 3 digs and Perkins 2 kills. Libero Sophie McLaughlin leed the defense with 12 digs while adding 3 aces.
