The Cougars (11-4) will now prepare for their contest against Aspire Ollin (Huntington Park, CA). The Jaguars go into the non-league battle with a 3-7 record.
The now own a 1-5 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Sun Valley Magnet for a Central Valley battle on Monday, September 22. Valor Academy will encounter a Pioneers squad coming off a 1-0 non-league loss to GALA (Los Angeles, CA). The Pioneers record now stands at 14-8.
Match Summary
A 6-0 start to the match by Lake Balboa turned into lunch for the hungry Valor Academy Lions at 7 all then 9 apiece. The Cougars opened it up to 12-9 & stretched it out to 15-11. Drama at 16-14 Lake before Kennia Martinez Ayala got her service mojo working to make it 20-14. Game over right? Nope, the Lions pounced on LBCP & roared all the way back to 20 all. They traded blows to 22 all before Maneh Parsadanyan's rotation took the last 3 points to end a very hard fought opener. Set 2, 7-2 in Darla Wiltz's tough serving rotation. The teal & black quickly made it 11-4. Sideout ball 15-11 sealed the deal for the Cougars. Valor was not going away. Set 3 opened at 6-5 Cougartown before Kennia again kicked the tires & lit the fire pulling away 15-5 home team. Valor did outscore Lake Balboa for the rest of the set 13-10 but it was too little, too late, set, match Cougars.
