Illinois High School Volleyball - Wilmington tips Streator
September 21, 2023: Wilmington, IL 60481 The Wilmington Wildcats (Wilmington, IL) volleyball tipped the visiting Streator Bulldogs (Streator, IL), 2-1 in Thursday's league bout.
With the win, Wilmington upgrades its record to 16-3 on the year. The Wildcats host Reed-Custer (Braidwood, IL) to play the Comets in a Illinois Central Eight bout on Tuesday, September 26. The Comets go into the bout with a record of 9-9.
The Bulldogs now own a 16-4 record. They play next when they host Ottawa for a non-league bout on Monday, September 25. Streator will play a Pirates squad coming off a 2-0 league loss to LaSalle-Peru (LaSalle, IL). The Pirates record now stands at 18-5.
Match Summary
The Wilmington Varsity Volleyball Team finished?the first half of the conference by beating Streator 25-14, 23-25, 25-22 making their record 16-3, 7-0 in conference. Rachel Smith led offensively with 9 attacks, 9 digs and an ace and a block. Maggie Lindsey continued to dominate at the net with 3 blocks to go along with her 3 attacks. Coach Van Duyne said, "Maggie is really becoming our go to girl when we need a sideout. She comes up with a big play right when we need her to. Either getting a attack or shutting down her hitter with an amazing block to get the momentum back on our side." To help out in the front row, Molly Southall added another 6 attack with Reese Van Duyne right behind her with 5. Lexi Liaromatis continued to lead defensively with 15 digs in the back court with an ace. Cole Drown and Smith had a 2.7 and 2.6, respectively, on serve receive to make the setter's job a little easier to set up the hitters.
