Virginia High School Volleyball - New Kent nudged by York
November 3, 2022: Yorktown, VA 23692 The York Falcons volleyball team scored 3 points and limited the visiting New Kent Trojans to 2 in the Falcons non-league victory on Thursday.
The Falcons now have a 22-4 record. They put it on the line next when they host Tabb for a non-league game on Monday, November 7. York will meet a Tigers team coming off a 3-0 non-league win over Southampton (Courtland, VA). The Tigers record now stands at 16-11.
Match Summary
In a hard-fought Region 3A semifinal match the #5 seeded Lady Trojans lost to the #1 York Falcons in five sets, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 14-25, 9-15. York with a 22-4 record was the favorite entering the match against New Kent with a 16-9 record, but the Lady Trojans put up a tremendous effort, going ahead 2-1 at the end of the third set. Many of the rallies were long and intense with multiple attack attempts and digs on both sides, bringing the winning team's bench to the edge of the court when the ball finally fell in their favor. Highlights for New Kent included seniors Aubrey Hyndshaw and Sophie McLaughlin, in their last match for the Lady Trojans, leading the team with 22 kills and 20 digs respectively. Other highlights included Greenawalt's 10 kills, 2 aces, and 5 digs; Powell's 6 kills, 3 aces, and 15 digs; Rounds' 5 kills and three blocks; Loveland's 22 assists and 13 digs, and Perkins' 17 assists. The loss ends the Lady Trojan's 2022 season with a 16-10 record.
