Classical Purples (Providence, RI) backers were pleased Wednesday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Westerly Bulldogs (Westerly, RI), 50-35 in a league bout.

With the victory, Classical upgrades its record to 1-4 on the campaign. The Purples host Portsmouth (Portsmouth, RI) to play the Patriots in a State Championship bout on Tuesday, January 10. The Patriots come into the bout with a record of 6-3. Portsmouth lost 61-37 in their recent league bout against St. Mary Academy-Bay View (East Providence, RI)

Next up, the Bulldogs play the Rogers Vikings (Newport, RI) in a State Championship bout, on Friday, January 6. Westerly will attempt to upgrade on its 2-5 season record. The Vikings come into the bout with a 2-3 record after their 44-41 league loss to South Kingstown (Wakefield, RI).
