The Essex Hornets basketball team (Essex Junction, VT), was overwhelmed 71-45 in Monday's league battle with the visiting Rice Memorial Green Knights (South Burlington, VT)

The Green Knights now possess a 14-1 record. They put it on the line next when they host St. Johnsbury Academy for a Metro battle on Thursday, February 1. Rice Memorial will battle a Hilltoppers team coming off a 70-53 non-league win over Bellows Free Academy (St. Albans, VT). The Hilltoppers record now stands at 13-2.

The Hornets (2-12) will now prepare for their battle against Champlain Valley Union (Hinesburg, VT). The Redhawks come into the Metro battle with a 12-2 record. In their last battle, Champlain Valley Union trounced Burlington (Burlington, VT), 63-50, in a league battle.
