Fans at Friday's league challenge between the Mitchell Mountaineers (Bakersville, NC) and the visiting Owen Warhorses (Black Mountain, NC), saw Mitchell's basketball squad wallop Owen by a count of 70-39.

With the victory, Mitchell upgrades its record to 8-9 on the campaign. The Mountaineers host Draughn (Valdese, NC) to play the Wildcats in a 1A/2A Western Highlands challenge on Tuesday, January 30. The Wildcats come into the challenge with a record of 7-12. Draughn lost 57-53 in their recent league challenge against Avery County (Newland, NC)

Next up, the Warhorses play the Mountain Heritage Cougars (Burnsville, NC) in a 1A/2A Western Highlands challenge, on Tuesday, January 30. Owen will attempt to upgrade on its 3-15 season record. The Cougars come into the challenge with a 16-2 record after their 57-49 league win over Rosman (Rosman, NC).
