Fans at Friday's league challenge between the Mathis Pirates (Mathis, TX) and the visiting Taft Greyhounds (Taft, TX), saw Mathis's basketball squad overcome Taft by a tally of 56-40.

With the victory, Mathis improves its record to 16-14 on the campaign. The Pirates travel to Goliad (Goliad, TX) to confront the Tigers in a 3A Region IV District 29 challenge on Tuesday, February 13. The Tigers come into the challenge with a record of 27-5. Goliad won 51-26 in their recent league challenge against George West (George West, TX)

Next up, the Greyhounds confront the Odem Owls (Odem, TX) in a 3A Region IV District 29 challenge, on Tuesday, February 13. Taft will attempt to improve on its 19-15 season record. The Owls come into the challenge with a 14-18 record after their 76-51 league loss to Aransas Pass (Aransas Pass, TX).
