Fans at Friday's league challenge between the Lanier Longhorns (Sugar Hill, GA) and the visiting Gainesville Red Elephants (Gainesville, GA), saw Lanier's basketball squad hold off Gainesville by a count of 37-35.

With the victory, Lanier upgrades its record to 13-10 on the campaign. The Longhorns host Habersham Central (Mt. Airy, GA) to play the Raiders in a AAAAAA Region 8 challenge on Tuesday, February 6. The Raiders come into the challenge with a record of 9-12. Habersham Central lost 69-30 in their recent league challenge against North Forsyth (Cumming, GA)

Next up, the Red Elephants play the Jackson County Panthers (Jefferson, GA) in a AAAAAA Region 8 challenge, on Tuesday, February 6. Gainesville will attempt to upgrade on its 5-16 season record. The Panthers come into the challenge with a 5-17 record after their 49-33 league loss to Shiloh (Snellville, GA).
