High Island Cardinals (High Island, TX) backers were in high spirits Tuesday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Zavalla Eagles (Zavalla, TX), 43-30 in a league bout.

With the win, High Island upgrades its record to 6-23 on the season. The Cardinals host Brookeland (Brookeland, TX) to clash with the Wildcats in a 1A Region IV District 28 bout on Friday, February 10. The Wildcats go into the bout with a record of 24-5. Brookeland lost 62-57 in their recent league bout against Leggett (Leggett, TX)

Next up, the Eagles clash with the Goodrich Hornets (Goodrich, TX) in a 1A Region IV District 28 bout, on Friday, February 10. Zavalla will attempt to upgrade on its 4-22 season record. The Hornets go into the bout with a 1-27 record after their 83-33 league loss to Spurger (Spurger, TX).
