Softball Game Preview: Harrisonville Wildcats vs. Sherwood Marksmen

The Harrisonville Wildcats will square off against the Sherwood Marksmen at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Harrisonville has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

It was a proper cat-fight when Harrisonville faced off against Oak Grove on Wednesday. The Wildcats lost 22-6 to the Panthers. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Haisley Hill was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run. Savannah Sweet was another key player, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Sherwood scored first but ultimately less than Montrose in their game on Thursday. They came up short against the Blue Jays, falling 17-5.

Lainey Powell made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Makayla Myers also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Harrisonville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Sherwood, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.

Harrisonville's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sherwood, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Harrisonville continue to outrun the ball?

Harrisonville skirted past Sherwood 11-10 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
