Softball Recap: Harrisonville Wildcats vs. Sherwood Marksmen
Harrisonville had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it ten. They fell just short of the Sherwood Marksmen by a score of 6-5. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Marksmen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Harrisonville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Jackson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Cadence Griffin was another, earning two runs and one stolen base.
As for Sherwood, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since October 16, 2024.
On Sherwood's side, Kalli Gariepy was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Gariepy was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ashlynn Degraffenreid and Lainey Powell did most of the damage at the plate: Degraffenreid went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Powell went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Degraffenreid a new career-high. Taylor Walker also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Coming up, Harrisonville will welcome Clinton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sherwood, they will head out to take on Wheatland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
