MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 5 Centennial survives 59-49 shootout at Norco

Junior defensive back Dean Gibson had four rushing touchdowns as No. 5 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) topped Norco (Calif.) 59-49 on Thursday night.

Gibson came into the game with three career touchdowns and scored his fourth touchdown of the night from 50 yards out in the fourth quarter, giving the Huskies a 56-49 lead.

Centennial senior quarterback Dominick Catalano passed for a touchdown and ran for two more as the Huskies improve to 8-1.

Junior Julian Julian Medina lit it up for Norco (6-3) and threw six touchdown passes, three of them went to junior four-star Blake Wong.



Medina now has 34 touchdowns on the season and 20 of them have gone to Wong.

The MaxPreps Game of the Week takes place in Arizona between the top two teams in the state as No. 18 Basha (Chandler) hosts Hamilton (Chandler) on Friday. 

Hamilton won 10 of the first 11 meetings between the district rivals but Basha has turned the series in its favor by winning the last three.

Basha has been great on both sides of the ball and comes in allowing 11 points per game. Three-star linebacker Dante Bruley is second on the team with 59 tackles and leads the Bears with 21 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. 

Hamilton is averaging 57.4 points per game behind Roye Oliver III, who is putting together a monster sophomore campaign with 52 receptions for 1,106 yards and 23 touchdowns. 

No. 4 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) faces one of its toughest challenges of the season Saturday in East St. Louis (Ill.). The Flyers have won five in a row after dropping their first two games against Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) and No. 6 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas). 

In California, No. 11 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) looks to bounce back after a 27-14 loss against No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) as it hosts Orange Lutheran (Orange), which saw its record dropped to 2-6 after having to forfeit a pair of wins. 

On the field, things are looking up for Orange Lutheran after freshman quarterback Ezrah Brown went 17 for 17 for 368 yards and three touchdowns in a 63-23 win over JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) last week.

In Florida, No. 14 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) looks to win its eighth straight game against a hungry American Heritage (Plantation) squad coming off a 13-10 loss against Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale). Last year's meeting came down to the wire as Dia Bell and Malachi Toney led the Patriots to a 42-38 win.
