High school basketball: Expanding the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 all the way to 100

Thirty states and the District of Columbia represented in our look at the nation's top teams.

The Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 high school basketball rankings were released last week. Now we are expanding our look at the nation's top teams by looking at the next 75.

The teams in the top 100 all have excellent pedigree, a tradition of success and big-time players fueling expectations of jumping into the MaxPreps Top 25 as the season progresses. Some are returning state champions while others are contenders to bring home a title in 2024-25.

California (11) and Florida (8) lead the way with a combined 19 teams on the list.

In total, 30 different states along with the District of Columbus are represented. Twenty of those states had multiple teams selected. Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia each have four or more teams highlighted.

2023-24: 29-5, No. 2 in final MaxPreps Top 25
Behind twin stars and Duke commits Cameron Boozer and Cayden Boozer, the Explorers have captured three consecutive state championships in Florida's highest classification. Top 30 juniors Jaxon Richardson and Caleb Gaskins are key supporting pieces for the team to beat in high school basketball.

2023-24: 28-6, No. 23
Return four starters from last season headlined by a trio of four-star seniors in North Carolina commit Derek Dixon, Virginia Tech pledge Christian Gurdak and Xavier commit Nykolas Lewis.

2023-24: 31-4, No. 4
Bring back four of their top five scorers from last season headlined by five-star senior Brayden Burries along with New Mexico commit Issac Williamson and senior guards Myles Walker and Dominic Copenhagen.

2023-24: 27-4, No. 7
Look to capture their first state crown since 2018 behind Providence commit Jamier Jones and LSU commit Jalen Reece. Other key pieces include Ohio commit CeZanne Mosley, top 150 senior Treyvon Maddox and junior center Tim Winkler.

Defending Division I state champions add five-star junior Christian Collins to a talented returning cast that includes 2023-24 MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year Brandon McCoy and four-star Harvard pledge Elzie Harrington.

Three-time defending state champions return three starters in first team MaxPreps Junior All-America selection Koa Peat, University of Missouri-Kansas City commit D'Andre Harrison and senior guard NoNo Brown.

2023-24: 30-2, No. 5
Top five junior Caleb Holt, Cal State-Fullerton commit K.J. Garris and senior guard Chris McLavish join top returners Amir Taylor and top 40 Georgia commit Jacob Wilkins for the favorites to repeat as Class 7A state champions.



2023-24: 31-5, No. 50
All five starters return from a team that reached the Class 6A regional semifinals last season. Five-star senior Kingston Flemings is again expected to be the catalyst while Isaiah Ward, Camden Cowgill, Donovan Criss and Talon Todd round out the starters again.

Defending national champions graduate the bulk of their production from last season. Five-star junior Jordan Smith is expected to lead the charge along with returners Jaquan Womack and Utah State pledge Adlan Elamin

2023-24: 33-3, No. 3
Two-time defending Open Division state champions have a chance to capture their third straight title this season led by top 20 Duke commit Nikolas Khamenia. The addition of four-star junior Joe Sterling is expected to stabilize losses in backcourt.

2023-24: 27-3, No. 40
Return top 40 Connecticut commit Eric Reibe, Stonehill College commit Darren Moore and Marquette pledge Adrien Stevens to lead the charge after reaching the Maryland private school state title game last season.

2023-24: 26-4, No. 11
Massachusetts commit Danny Carbuccia is expected to be joined by juniors Jasiah Jervis, Hassan Koureissi, Dylan Perry and Darius Ratliff in the starting rotation for the two-time defending CHSAA Class AA champions.

2023-24: 25-5, No. 39 in final rankings
Return four starters from a team that reached the Open Division state championship game last season as top 20 junior Cameron Holmes headlines top returners along with four-star Utah State pledge Kingston Tosi.



2023-24: 27-4, No. 20
Top 40 Kentucky commit Acaden Lewis, George Washington commit Jalen Rougier-Roane and senior guard Caleb Gillus look to complete the four-peat as a senior class for the three-time defending DCSAA Class AA champions.

2023-24: 36-2, No. 30
Top 25 Kentucky commit Malachi Moreno, Morehead State pledge Vince Dawson and senior guards Junius Burrell and Gage Richardson each return as four-year starters for the program in its sixth year of existence.

Three-time defending Class 2A state champions are overwhelming favorites to capture their fourth consecutive title behind top 70 junior Latrell Allmond and Mississippi State pledge Ladarius Givan along with Richmond commit Aiden Argabright

2023-24: 30-3, No. 35
Two-time defending state champions return all five starters from last season powered by top 100 Tennessee commit DeWayne Brown and four-star UAB pledge Salim London.

2023-24: 28-2, No. 17
Defending Class AAAA state champions feature a talented backcourt that includes four-star junior Korie Corbett, promising sophomore D.J. Wylie and junior Yale Davis.

2023-24: 26-4, No. 45
The Trailblazers look to contend for its first state title since going back-to-back in 2018 and 2019 behind the key additions of four-star Rutgers commit Chris Nwuli, top 40 junior Maximo Adams and three-star senior Gavin Hightower.

2023-24: 27-1, No. 22
Reigning Division I state champions return four starters from as Western Michigan pledge Sharod Barnes, Michigan State football commit Jayden Savoury and senior guard Isaiah Hines are joined by the team's catalyst — five-star senior Trey McKenney.

2023-24: 25-3, No. 99
Defending Philadelphia Catholic League champions are favored to capture their fifth state championship since 2015 with top 40 sophomore Tyler Sutton joining returners Lafayette commit Shareef Jackson and four-star junior Sammy Jackson.

2023-24: 25-8, No. 37
Bring back four starters from a top 50 finish last season as Pittsburgh commit Omari Witherspoon, Towson pledge Jon Barton and juniors Devin Toatley and Zyion Chase are expected to again be the key cogs.



2023-24: 25-6, No. 56
A revamped roster features a pair of high-major transfers as top 50 Mississippi commit Tylis Jordan and top 70 junior Colben Landrew are expected to be the go-to guys for a team that returns three starters.

2023-24: 31-4, No. 44
Bring back four starters headlined by five-star Baylor commit Tounde Yessoufou, who enters his senior year with 2,816 career points. The top 15 prospect is again flanked by juniors Abdoul Bare, Gunner Morinini and four-star standout Julius Price.

2023-24: 29-0, No. 26
Coming off an unbeaten Class 2A state championship run, the Rams are headlined by reigning MaxPreps National Male Athlete of the Year Kendre Harrison. Dionte Neal, Johnniyus Sharpe and Cam’ron Jones also return from last year's starting rotation.

Bring back all five starters from a group that got over the hump to capture the program's first state title. Four-star Illinois commit Keaton Wagler and top 50 junior Ethan Taylor are the players to watch.

2023-24: 31-4, No. 46
The addition of top-ranked junior Tyran Stokes make the Knights a serious contender for the CIF Open Division state championship. Stokes joins top returners three-star Rutgers commit Angelino Mark and junior wing Zachary White.

2023-24: 26-4, No. 47
Reigning Class 6A state champions return three starters from a team that burst onto the scene last season. Top 20 junior Jalen Montonati, three-star Saint Louis commit Jax Kerr and junior guard Boden Williams lead the charge again.



2023-24: 26-4, No. 76
Bring back four starters from a team that reached the VISAA Division I state championship game as top 60 senior Chance Mallory will again be the catalyst. St. Joseph's commit Austin Williford, Queens University pledge Danzelle Bullock Coles and junior wing Connor Lyons will also be major contributors.

2023-24: 26-5, No. 61
Two-time defending NCISAA Class 4A champions may be the team to beat in the Tar Heel State as four-star North Carolina State commit Zymicah Wilkins teams with impact juniors Tyler Jones and Dacen Petty.

2023-24: 32-3, No. 75
Return four of five starters from their run to the Class 7A state semifinals. Four-star Auburn commit Simon Walker, UNC-Asheville pledge Brayden Rivers and Lipscomb pledge J.D. Gossett guide an experienced core.

2023-24: 32-1, No. 63
Following a trip to the NCHSAA Class 4A state championship game last season, the Wildcats return all five starters from their including three seniors who averaged double-figures last season in Rodmik Allen, Nolan Billings and C.J. Kornegay.

2023-24: 30-1, No. 48
Three-time defending Class 5A state champions return four starters from a team that won 26 games by double-digits last season. 2023-24 MaxPreps New Mexico Player of the Year Kenyon Aguino and promising sophomore David Lunn are again expected to be the catalysts.

2023-24: 32-6
In search of the program's second state title, the Eagles begin the season as the No. 2-ranked team out of Texas powered by three-star North Texas pledge Deandre Thomas and senior guard Trent Pane.

2023-24: 23-6
Little Hoyas feature an embarrassment of riches as four-star junior Sinan Huan joins returning starters Boston College commit Akbar Waheed, Dartmouth pledge Tyler Garrett, Army-bound Patrick McDonough and Loyola Maryland commit Carter Berg-McLean.

2023-24: 20-11
Favored to capture their first state championship since 2021 after dropping down to Class AAAAAA. The Eagles return 12 of 14 varsity players from last season led by Yale pledge Daniel Ogunyemi and Wisconsin-Milwaukee-bound Josh Dixon.



Defending Class 4A state champions bring back all five starters from last season in reigning Class 4A player of the Year Jacob Daniels, four-star DePaul pledge Isaiah Medina, Bobby Crawford, Mathis Roberts and promising sophomore O'Neal Delancy.

2023-24: 18-6
The Fighting Irish return each of their top five scorers from last season led by four-star Notre Dame commit Brady Koehler and junior wing Keaton Aldridge.

2023-24: 25-8, No. 62
Two-time reigning Class 3A state champions lost their top scorer to transfer but return four starters as sophomores Myles Fuentes and top 20 prospect Jeremy Jenkins, junior Mason Fuentes and senior Gustavo Guimaraes Alves have gained a year of experience.

2023-24: 29-3, No. 29
Three-time reigning Class 5A state champions graduate three starters from last season but are expecting increased production from top 15 sophomore Zion Green, junior guard R.J. Smith and junior wing Zaahir Muhammad-Gray.

In search of the program's first state championship since winning three straight from 2017-19, the Lions possess an elite one-two punch of top 60 Florida pledge Alexander Lloyd and five-star junior Alex Constanza.

2023-24: 30-7
The Cardinals are one of the top contenders for the Class 6A state title as they return the majority of their production from last season headlined by five-star Duke commit Shelton Henderson along with fellow seniors Anthony Andrews and Kohlman Dutton.

Three-time defending Class AAA state champions bring back four starters as four-star junior Dothan Ijadimbola, Wofford pledge Chace Watley, senior wing Tyler Wagner and junior guard Tian Chatman will all see increased roles in the offense.



2023-24: 19-10
Following a run of five straight finishes in the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings, the Panthers fell victim to a brutal schedule last season and suffered double-digit losses for the first time in a decade. Four-star TCU commit Bugg Edwards leads the youthful group.

2023-24: 30-3, No. 93
Became the first program in York County history to capture the state title in Pennsylvania's largest classification last season and return their top three scorers from the title game in senior forward Ben Rill and junior guards Ben Natal and Ryan Brown.

46. De Pere (Wis.)
2023-24: 26-2, No. 73
Returning starters Roan Demovsky, four-star Wisconsin commit Zach Kinziger and Northern Michigan pledge Pryce Gregoire are the top returners for a senior-laden group that was upset in the Division I quarterfinals last season.

2023-24: 25-6
Favorites to capture their third consecutive Class 2A state championship, the Lions add top 40 Miami commit Matthew Able and senior guard Anthony Knowles to join returning starters Patrick Liburd and Kevin Thomas.

Following a run to the Open Division state semifinals, the Crusaders add three-star California commit Semetri Carr and four-star junior Andrew Hilman to go with top returner four-star Texas A&M pledge Jasir Rencher.

An influx of talent sees a revamped roster surround key returners three-star senior Naas Hart and promising sophomore Anthony Mauro. 6-11 junior center Daniel Marcellinus and top 100 junior Eric Hillsman are among the top newcomers.

After suffering their lone loss in the sectional title game last season, the Cougars bring back their top three scorers in five-star Connecticut pledge Braylon Mullins and fellow seniors Boston Willard and Dallas Freeman.

2023-24: 29-6, No. 49
Head coach Gary McKnight is three wins from passing Morgan Wootten for No. 2 on the all-time list. A pair of starters return for the Monarchs as three-star Saint Joseph's pledge Owen Verna and senior forward Blake Davidson are expected to lead the charge.

2023-24: 20-8
The Red Devils are a serious contender to capture their first state championship since 1993 behind three players who averaged 13.8 points or higher in top 100 Northwestern commit Tre Singleton and Wright State commits Michael Cooper and P.J. Douglas.

Look to become the first team in OHSAA history to capture four consecutive state championships behind four-star Ohio State commit Dorian Jones, UTEP pledge DeErick Barber and Texas-Rio Grande Valley-bound Demaris Winters.



2023-24: 20-8
Return four starters after bowing out in the Open Division state quarterfinals last season. Top 60 sophomores Delton Prescott and Darius Wabbington and juniors Rider Portela and Cristian Simmons lead the way.

2023-24: 24-12
Defending Maryland private school state champions bring back four starters from a team that hit a rough patch that resulted in eight losses in nine games midway through the campaign. Top returners include junior Ashton Meeks and seniors Kade Sebastian, Jacob Wallace and Charles Thomas.

2023-24: 16-8
Aiming for their first Philadelphia Catholic League championship since 1998, the Crusaders are a team to watch behind Merrimack commit Kevair Kennedy, Loyola Maryland pledge Everett Barnes and junior guard Derrick Morton-Rivera.

2023-24: 24-5
Four-star football recruit Jett Washington, senior Nick Jefferson and sophomores Kameron Cooper and Ilan Nikolov are joined by incoming senior forward Chris Baudreau in the starting five.

2023-24: 29-1, No. 15
Coming off a run to the program's first state title, the Tigers have the pieces to repeat behind Stanford football pledge JonAnthony Hall and talented sophomores Cooper Zachary and top 20 prospect Jason Gardner.

Look to capture the program's first state title since 2022 and sixth overall with each of their top six scorers returning. Seniors Declan Wucherpfennig and Minnesota football commit Naiim Parrish as well as four-star junior Julius Avent averaged double-digits scoring last season.

Following a run to the school's first state championship in Colorado's highest classification and second overall, the Eagles will again rely heavily on 2023-24 Colorado MaxPreps Player of the Year Cole Scherer.

After advancing to the Class AAAA state championship game last season, the Golden Bears look to capture their first state title in program history behind returning starters top 10 senior Caleb Wilson and junior guards Devin Hutcherson and Jordan Mays.



2023-24: 29-3, No. 9
Defending Non-Public A winners bring back three starters from their best finish in the national rankings in program history as Brown University commit Brady Loughlin, top 40 junior Keiner Asprilla and senior guard Jordan Ghee anchor the rotation.

Bring back four starters from a team that made an unexpected run to the Class 4A state championship game last season. Top 30 sophomore Munir Greig, top 80 junior Luca Foster and juniors Ian Williams and Nasir Ralls look to guide the Patriots to their first state title since 2009.

2023-24: 30-3, No. 14
Reigning NCHSAA Class 4A state champions will be among the favorites for the title again this season as their trio of returning starters Charleston commit Chadlyn Traylor and juniors Ashton Pierce and Exzavier Young will see increased roles.

2023-24: 38-2, No. 12
Although the Tigers lose two crucial pieces from their run to the Class 6A state title game last season, they bring back a pair of key contributors in South Dakota commit Uzziah Buntyn and Pitt State commit Landon Short.

2023-24: 29-2, No. 67
Fell one game shy of repeating as Class AA state champions after being upset in the title game. The Trojans have three starters coming back as top 60 junior Christian Wiggins, Isaac Olmstead and Wyatt McBeth will have increased roles.
The Spartans return four starters from a first round state tournament exit as four-star Oklahoma commit Alec Blair, seniors Braddock Kjellesvig and David Balogun and junior Ibrahim Monawar lead the charge.

68. Central Catholic (Portland, Ore.)
2023-24:
29-3, No. 90
Following a run to the program's first state championship since 1994 and second overall, an experienced group faces an ambitious schedule this season led by four returning starters — Wake Forest pledge Isaac Carr, senior Duce Paschal and juniors Zamir Paschal and Robbie Long.

Advanced to the CIF Open Division state title game last season but fell shy of winning the program's third state title and first since 2012. A pair of starters come back for the Pride in Yale commit Alvin Loving and three-star junior Elias Obenyah.

2023-24: 28-3
Advanced to the NCHSAA Class 4A state semifinals before falling to eventual state champion North Mecklenburg in overtime. Four starters return as three-star Clemson pledge Trent Steinour, Appalachian State commit Tre McKinnon, senior Josh Yates and junior Nick Arnold will again lead the way.

2023-24: 19-7
Return virtually all production from a group that reached the Class 5A state semifinals. Juniors Aisa Galeai, Callen Tollestrup, Mason Ford and top 50 prospect Dean Rueckert are the players to watch for the Thunderbirds.

The Titans are a team to watch out of the Sunshine State as five-star junior Toni Bryant, junior guard Archie McFadden and senior wing Brodey Cuffle lead the way. The upstart program is in its sixth year of existence.



2023-24: 28-5
Begin the season as the team to beat out of the Prairie State. Top 25 sophomore Davion Thompson, Valparaiso commit J.T. Pettigrew and junior guard Trey Brost return to the starting lineup for a program in search of its first state title.

2023-24: 29-4
Advanced to the Class 6A state championship game last season and return their top three scorers in three-star senior Kellen Robinson along with junior guards Camarion Bead and R.J. Young.

2023-24: 18-13
The Vikings appear to be the team to beat in the Evergreen State as three-star Rutgers commit Kaden Powers is joined by four-star New Mexico pledge Jaylen Petty to form a dynamic one-two punch.

2023-24: 21-8
Gene Roebuck, the 2023-24 MaxPreps Freshman of the Year, and senior guard Julien Gomez headline a roster that will be a darkhorse in the Golden State.

2023-24: 29-2, No. 10
Captured their first state championship since 1977 and sixth all-time with a 43-point victory in the Non-Public B title game. Top 50 junior Jayden Hodge, senior guards Evan Romano and Bryan Ebeling and sophomore wing Avery Lynch are the top returners for the Purple Roses.

A youthful group struggled down the stretch last season, going 5-9 over their last 14 games and losing their final three. With an added year of experience, the Mustangs look to rebound behind five-star junior Qayden Samuels and top 70 junior Prince-Alexander Moody.



2023-24: 26-3, No. 41
Defending Division I state champions graduate some key pieces from the championship team but return the top two scorers in senior guard Quinn Woidke and three-star Dayton commit Damon Friery.

The Saints are a contender to capture the Philadelphia Catholic League title and compete for the program's 10th state title since 2010. Juniors Torrey Brooks, Stephon Ashley and DeShawn Yates each return after averaging double figures last year.

2023-24: 26-6
In search of the program's first state title, the Yellow Jackets are among the favorites to compete for the Class 5A state title led by four-star junior Joe Philon and top 50 USF commit Joshua Lewis.

2023-24: 21-8
After making a run to the CHSAA Class AA title game last season, the Kingsmen are a team to watch out of the Empire State again. Key returners include seniors Halon Rawlins and Achilles Desmanagles along with junior forward Kaiden Francis.

2023-24: 24-4
Captured the program's first state title with a 53-39 victory in the Division II state championship game. Twin brothers Markus Blackwell and Moses Blackwell will again be the catalysts during their seniors campaigns.

A youthful group hopes to peak a year early as they are expected to be one of the top contenders in Class AAAAA this season behind top 60 sophomore Tre Keith, junior forward Jayden London and sophomore guard Khalid Jones.

Advanced to the Class 4A state quarterfinals last year before falling shy of capturing their first state title since winning three straight from 2004-06. Top 100 Butler commit Azavier Robinson and juniors Kai McGrew and Brennan Miller are the top returners.

The Argonauts are led by highly-touted sophomores Jacob Canton and Andrew Kretowski but their is also experience in senior wing Myles Parker.

Two-time defending Class 4A state champions begin the season as one of the teams to beat in the Natural State behind five-star junior J.J. Andrews.



2023-24: 17-14
Experienced roster is headlined by four-star junior Jaron Saulsberry along with seniors Miles Clanton, Connor Teasley and Thomas McBride. The Blue Devils are a darkhorse to capture their seventh state title since 2006 in Georgia's highest classification.

The top two contributors return from last season as junior Joe Mitchell and senior Monteff Dixon are expected to again be the catalysts for the group that reached the Class 4A state semifinals last season.

2023-24: 23-9, No. 78
A revamped roster brings back just one starter from last season as newcomers Darius Bivins, Makel Minor and Liam Koelsch are expected to join top returner Wyatt Norton in the starting rotation.

Seniors Cal and Wes Baskind along with junior forward Oliver Junker are the top returners for a team that is in search of its first state title.

2023-24: 26-2
Following a run to the Division I state quarterfinals last season, the Pioneers look to claim their first state championship with their top four contributors from last season returning in seniors Keegan Knupp and Devin Brown and juniors Levi Davis and Treyton Schroeder.

2023-24: 24-12
The Hawks advanced to the VISAA Division II state title game despite taking some lumps last season. Highland looks to get over the hump this year with all five starters returning headlined by top five senior Nate Ament.

Fell shy of defending their state title last year, losing to eventual state runner-up Holy Innocents in the second round of the Class AAAA state tournament. The Knights return their top two scorers from last season — Georgia Tech commit Eric Chatfield and senior wing Chandler Bing.

2023-24: 28-0
The top team out of the Nutmeg State to begin the year, the Green Knights captured their first state title last season. Top 70 junior Abdou Toure and junior forward Landon Krygier are the players to watch.

2023-24: 23-6, No. 88 in final rankings
Following a run to the CHSAA Class AA semifinals last season, the Ravens are a team to watch again as they return three-star Georgia Tech commit Brandon Stores and senior guard Tai Turnage.



2023-24: 32-4
One of the top contenders to capture the Class 6A state title this season, the Panthers look to build on a strong campaign that ended with an upset loss in the third round of the state tournament. North Crowley is off to a 3-0 start this season with an average margin of victory of 30 points.

2023-24: 24-7
The final team to watch out of the Tar Heel State in the top 100 is the reigning NCISAA Class 2A state champion. Top 70 North Carolina commit Isaiah Denis is the catalyst while senior Levon Jacobs and junior William Stevens anchor the frontcourt.

2023-24: 18-7
Following a run to the Class 5A state quarterfinals last season, the Tigers return seniors Trey Hiatt, Chance Dastrup and Utah State commit Jax Allen, who is the team's catalyst.

2023-24: 23-3, No. 55
Advanced to the Class A state title game last year behind a senior-laden group. Although the Mustangs graduated numerous key pieces, they bring back their leading scorer, rebounder and shot-blocker in senior forward Derek Rollins.
