2024 Olympics: State-by-state look at where every USA Basketball Olympian went to high school since 1936

By Thomas Frey Jul 25, 2024, 9:00am

California leads the way with 27 selections including Bill Russell, James Harden and Bill Russell.

Since basketball made its first appearance at the 1936 Summer Olympics, 211 players have suited up for the Team USA men's squad in the Olympics.

California leads the way with 27 players. Half of the inaugural 1936 team played high school basketball in the Golden State. Reggie Miller, Gary Payton, Russell Westbrook and Bill Russell also wore the red, white and blue.

Illinois comes in at No. 2 and is represented by superstars Kevin Garnett and Dwyane Wade. Starring in his second Olympics is Anthony Davis, who also played on the 2012 team after his freshman year at Kentucky.

Texas takes the No. 3 spot with 17 members. In 1936, 1972, 2008 and 2016 the Lone Star State was represented by multiple players.

New York is the only state to have two grads to play on the 1992 Dream Team in Christian Laettner and Chris Mullin.

Eight states had at least nine selections including North Carolina, the only state with multiple players on the 2024 squad as Bam Adebayo and two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry will wear USA across their chests in Paris.

This list includes every player on the 2024 squad, which plays its first game on Sunday against Nikola Jokic and Serbia.
