Top-ranked Mater Dei win 28th consecutive game Friday night against JSerra Catholic.

The 2022 high school football season is entering win or go home time as 21 of the teams featured in the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings are in the playoffs. Our Game of the Week featured No. 22  Long Beach Poly (Long Beach, Calif.) playing at Los Alamitos (Calif.) in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 bracket and Damian Henderson led the Griffins to a 52-42 win.

The 2023 Colorado State commit rushed for 237 yards and four touchdowns. Up next for the Griffins is No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) in the semifinals on Nov. 18.

The top-ranked team in the country beat JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) 54-14. Mater Dei's (Santa Ana, Calif.) head coach Bruce Rollinson announced on Thursday he was retiring at the end of the season and they cruised to a dominant win on Friday. They are three wins away from winning their third MaxPreps National championship since 2017. They went wire-to-wire as the No. 1 team in 2017 and 2021.

The biggest upset this week came in the same bracket as Mission Viejo (Calif.) beat No. 13 Corona Centennial (Corona, Calif.) 31-28 to advance to the semifinals. They will face No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) on Nov. 18. The Braves beat Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) 49-14.

No. 5 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) punched its ticket to the 5A state championship with a dominant 56-14 win over Liberty (Henderson, Nev.). The Gaels have dominated every opponent this season not named Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.). Outside of that 24-21 loss in late August the Las Vegas power has outscored the opposition 717-48.

No. 11 Westlake (Austin, Texas) extended the longest winning streak in the country on Thursday beating Cedar Ridge (Round Rock, Texas) 58-10 in its playoff opener. The three-time defending state champs have won 51 games in a row. Up next is New Braunfels (Texas). The Chaparrals are one of three MaxPreps Top 25 teams in the 6A Division 1 bracket.

No. 9 North Shore (Houston) beat Dobie (Houston) 49-6 and No. 14 Duncanville cruised to a 74-13 win over Bryan.
