High school baseball runs scored leaders: Three-sport standout from Arizona tops list

A four-year, three-sport standout from Arizona leads the nation in runs scored. Gabe Escobedo, who just finished his senior season at Miami (Ariz.), scored 64 runs to lead all baseball players throughout the country, according to the MaxPreps leaderboards.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound third baseman, outfielder and pitcher hit .556 in 30 games for the Vandals, who finished 26-5 after losing in the 2A AIA seimfinals. Escobedo, who also starred on the football field and basketball court, had 55 hits in 99 at-bats with 15 doubles, six triples and three home runs. On the mound, he was 9-2 with a 2.78 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 58 innings. He also stole 34 bases.

His career stats in all three sports are impressive. In baseball, he finished with 132 hits, 152 runs and 49 extra-base hits with 88 stolen bases and an 11-2 record on the mound and 2.78 career ERA.

In basketball, he scored more that 1,400 points (9.1 average) with 378 rebounds, 183 assists and 213 steals. In football, he threw for 517 career yards, rushed for 814 and caught passes for more than 3,100 yards. He accounted for 51 touchdowns. On defense, he piled up 174 career tackles, had six sacks and caused six fumbles.

In senior season on the diamond, he scored at least three runs 14 times. Only two other players in the country have scored at least 60 runs — Patrick Forbes of Bowling Green (Ky.) with 63 and Luke Noffsinger, of MEMA (Cecil, Ala.) with 62.
