Who had Pennsylvania's best individual performances? You vote, you decide. MaxPreps is proud to sponsor the Pennsylvania Athlete of the Week awards during the 2023-24 school year.

Each week during the season (regular and post), there will be a fan-generated contest to tab weekly winners. Each winner receives a digital award patch for their MaxPreps player page. 

How does it work?

Nominees are selected from statistics submitted on MaxPreps. Coaches who do not have current access may request their free account here. Weekly finalists are released on MaxPreps every Tuesday and voting is conducted in a special poll. Voting ceases at noon on Mondays. The winners are announced the next day along with the next week's nominees.

Participants may vote as many times as they want. It's a competition. Last week over 45,000 votes were cast! So far this school year over 8.2-million votes have been cast.

Week 33 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Gianna Adams, Pittston Softball
Senior recorded back-to-back no-hitters and her first perfect game to open the season with wins over Dallas and Tunkhannock. K’d 14 of the 15 batters she faced against Dallas and 15-of-21 against Tunkhannock. Career record is 47-6 with a 0.86 ERA, seven no-hitters and 548 Ks.
 
* Sydney Gonglik, Bentworth (Bentleyville) Softball
Freshman struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced en route to recording a perfect game in an 11-0 win over Burgettstown. Also K’d 16 in an 8-0 win over Charleroi. Is 5-1 on the season with a 1.37 ERA, two no-hitters and 90 Ks.
 
* Logan Ungerland, Dallastown Boys Lacrosse
Junior had eight goals and four assists in a 19-6 win over New Oxford. Also had three goals and three assists in a 20-3 win over Mifflin County and four goals and an assist in a 17-5 win over Kennard-Dale. Has 34 goals and 12 assists this season.

Week 34 Pennsylvania High School Athlete of the Week Nominees

* Cambria Rice, York Suburban (York) Girls Lacrosse
Sophomore had 27 goals and six assists in wins over Eastern York, West York Area and West Shore Christian Academy. Has 73 goals and 12 assists this season and 169 goals and 30 assists in her career.
 
* Kaya Werley, Wilson (West Lawn) Softball
Sophomore went 3-for-4 with three home runs, six RBI and three runs in a win over Fleetwood. Batting .586 with 17 hits, 15 runs, 20 RBI, five doubles and five home runs.
 
* Carly Gaffney, Palmerton Softball
Senior went threw two no-hitters as part of a week that saw her go 4-0. Is 10-1 with a 1.11 ERA and 65 Ks this season. Career record is 61-23 with 595 Ks and a 2.14 ERA.
 
* Rilee Hanna, Franklin Softball
Senior went 15-for-20 with 10 runs, seven RBI, three doubles and a triple in a win over Grove City and losses to Hickory, Sharon, Jamestown and Slippery Rock. Batting .714 with 20 hits, 14 runs, 11 RBI and four doubles.
 
* John Hughes, Springdale Baseball
Senior struck out 27 of 38, walked one and allowed four hits in 11 winnings in wins over Rochester and St. Joseph. Is 3-0 this season with a 0.39 ERA, 41 Ks and three walks in 18 innings. Also batting .562.
 
* Jack Herron, Wyoming Seminary College Prep (Kingston) Boys Lacrosse
Senior had 13 goals and nine assists in wins over North Pocono and Holy Redeemer. Has 545 career points (336 goals and 209 assists).
 
* Carter Smith, Penns Manor (Clymer) Baseball
Senior went 4-for-5 with three home runs, six RBI, four runs and a double in a win over Purchase Line. Batting .533 with 16 hits, 14 runs, 12 RBI, nine doubles and four home runs.
 
* Maddox Tarquinio, Montour (McKees Rocks) Baseball
Senior went 3-for-4 with three home runs, four RBI and three runs in a win over Hopewell. Batting .415 with 14 runs and 13 RBI.

* Matthew Machalik, Palmerton Football
Senior carried the ball 11 times for 209 yards and five TDs, completed 14-of-17 passes for 184 yards and a TD, made three tackles and returned an interception 33 yards for a TD in a 54-30 win over Lehighton.
 
* Jacob Benton, Central (Martinsburg) Football
Senior caught six passes for 234 yards and two TDs in a 49-0 win over Bellefonte.

Week 2 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Alexa Mork, East (West Chester) Volleyball
Senior had 28, 15 and 11 kills in wins over Perkiomen Valley, Penncrest and Harriton.
 
* Jilly Deivert, Shikellamy (Sunbury) Girls Soccer
Sophomore opened the season with four goals and an assist, four goals and three goals and an assist in wins over Altoona, East Juanita and Mifflinburg.

Week 3 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Ava Shappell, Pine Grove Girls Soccer
Junior had seven goals in a 13-0 win over Weatherly. Has 17 goals in four games this year.
 
* Matt Zollers, Spring-Ford (Royersford) Football
Junior completed 14-of-21 passes for 311 yards and six TDs and carried the ball six times for 110 yards and a TD in a 63-17 win over Cumberland Valley. Leads the state with 1,059 total yards, including 840 passing  (and 14 TDs).

Week 4 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Lou Swartz, West Shamokin (Rural Valley) Football
Senior carried the ball 10 times for 309 yards and five TDs in a 52-20 win over Conemaugh Township. Also returned an interception for a TD and had four tackles and a TFL on defense. Has rushed for 859 yards and 13 TDs on 59 carries (14.6 yards per carry) this season.

* Jeremiah Knowles, Ephrata Football
Senior had 28 tackles (18 solo) and caused a fumble in a 55-29 win over Solanco.

Week 5 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Alivia Rutt, Mount Calvary Christian (Elizabethtown) Volleyball
Senior surpassed 1,000-career kills with 59 in wins over West Shore Christian Academy, Lancaster County Christian and Covenant Christian. She has 1,020 career kills and 1,156 career digs.
 
* Emilie Nagel, Muncy Girls Soccer
Had eight assists and a goal in a win over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech and three goals and three assists in a win over Montgomery.
 
* Anthony Mucciolo, Old Forge Boys Soccer
Senior had nine goals and two assists in wins over Mid Valley and Carbondale Area.

Week 6 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Owen Clouse, Redbank Valley (New Bethlehem) Boys Soccer
Senior had four goals in a win over Brookville, four goals in a win over Punxsutawney and two goals and an assist in a win over West Shamokin. Has 26 goals and eight assists this season.
 
* Lexi Coull, Clarion Area Girls Soccer
Senior had five goals and two assists in a 7-1 win over Ridgway, five goals and an assist in a 6-2 win over Brookville and three goals in a 6-1 win over Punxsutawney. Has 64 points this season (29 goals and six assists).

* Tommy Clark, Dunmore Boys Soccer
Junior has scored at least one goal in every game this year. Had hat tricks (three goals) in wins over Holy Cross and Gregory the Great Academy last week. Has 71 points (ranks fourth in the state), 30 goals (third in the state) and 11 assists this season.

Week 7 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Ella Webb, Mount Calvary Christian (Elizabethtown) Girls Soccer
Senior had back-to-back four-goal games in wins over Coventry Christian and High Point Baptist Academy. Has 31 goals and eight assists this season for 70 points, which currently ranks seventh in in the state and 67th nationally.  
 
* Gaven Mellott, Southern Fulton (Warfordsburg) Boys Soccer
After netting seven goals in a win over Berkeley Springs, the sophomore had back-to-back hat tricks (three goals) in a win over Mount Union and another win over Berkeley Springs.
 
* Bailey Corrigan, Liberty (Bethlehem) Volleyball
Junior had 37 kills in a 3-1 win over Easton Area and 33 kills in a 3-1 win over Wilson. Her 343 kills this season rank third in the state.

Week 8 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Lindsay Madigan, Warren Volleyball
Junior had 218 assists last week as the Dragons went 9-1-1. Has 1,463 career assists.
 
* Mario Landino, Emmaus Football
Senior had 20 tackles (13 solo), six TFL, a sack and a blocked punt in a 21-6 win over Liberty.
 
* Mason Fedor, Abington Heights (Clarks Summit) Football
Senior caught seven passes for 113 yards and a TD and had three interceptions (one returned for a TD), eight tackles and a sack in a 14-0 win over Scranton. Has 53 tackles, six TFL and five INTs and 44 receptions for 681 yards and eight TDs this season.
 
* Hailey Kravetz, Altoona Girls Soccer
Senior scored five and three goals, respectively, in wins over Bedford and Central Mountain. Has scored 33 goals this season, which currently ranks ninth in the state.

Week 9 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Rhianna Gooneratne, Plymouth Whitemarsh (Plymouth Meeting) Girls Golf
Shot a four-under-par two-day total of 140 to win the PIAA AAA girls golf state title by five strokes at Penn State.
 
* De'reon Washington, Serra Catholic (McKeesport) Football
Junior caught six passes for 298 yards and four TDs in a 46-28 win over Apollo Ridge. Averaged 49.7 yards per catch. Has 32 receptions for 799 yards and 12 TDs this season.

Week 10 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Raven Albrecht, Upper Merion Area (King of Prussia) Volleyball
Junior had 41, 41 and 40 assists in a win over Downington East, a loss to Haverford and a win over Garnet Valley, respectively. Her 850 assists this season ranks third in the state.
 
* Carlo Buzzatto, Riverview (Oakmont) Football
Senior eclipsed 400 yards rushing in a game for the second time this season and went over 2,000 yards for the season with 414 yards and three TDs on 32 carries in a 40-21 win over Springdale. Has 2,070 yards and 17 TDs on 210 carries this season.

Week 11 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Jaxon Schoedel, Mohawk Area (Bessemer) Boys Cross Country
Junior took home the Class 1A state title with a time of 16:09.
 
* Braxtyn Brown, Columbia Montour Vo-Tech (Bloomsburg) Football
Junior eclipsed 300 yards rushing for the second week in a row and third time this season with 320 yards amd four TDs on 33 carries in a 36-20 win over Lower Moreland. Last week he ran for 330 yards and five TDs on 28 carries in a 46-26 win over Montgomery. Has 1,919 rushing yards and 22 TDs this season.

Week 12 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Andrew Alston, Montour (McKees Rocks) Football
Junior caught eight passes for 234 yards and five TDs in a 51-21 win over Thomas Jefferson.
 
* Aaron Johnson, Danville Football
Senior caught seven passes for 234 yards and four TDs in a 42-3 win over Lewisburg. Has 52 receptions for 1,359 yards and 27 TDs this season. Has 48 career TDs.

Week 13-14 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Noah Handzel, Cathedral Prep (Erie) Boys Soccer
Senior had a goal in a 1-0 Class AAA state semifinal win over Hershey and a goal and assist in a 3-2 state championship win over Springfield Township. Finished the season with 85 points (32 goals and 21 assists).
 
* Ashton Kahle, Redbank Valley (New Bethlehem) Football
Senior caught nine passes for 249 yards and two TDs in a 26-7 win over Port Allegany and caught three passes for 86 yards and two TDs in a 44-0 win over Cambridge Springs. Has caught 58 passes for 1,211 yards and 15 TDs this season.
 
* Olivia Grenda, Pennridge (Perkasie) Girls Soccer
Senior had a goal and a goal and assist in Class AAAA state final and semifinal wins over Conestoga and Parkland, respectively, to finish the season with 72 points and her career with 171.

Week 15 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Dawson Camper, Union (Rimersburg) Boys Basketball
Senior had 12 points, 18 rebounds, three blocks and three steals in an 81-24 win over Brockway and 12 points and 19 rebounds in a 65-48 loss to Warren. Averaging 12 points and 18.5 rebounds.
 
* Nicholas Farrell, Dallas Football
Senior had 20 tackles and two TFL in a 26-23 win over Bishop McDevitt.
 
* Pace Prosser, Berlin Brothersvalley Boys Basketball
Senior dropped 39 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in a season-opening 59-47 win over Richland.

Week 16 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Ashley Robinson, Paul Robeson (Philadelphia) Girls Basketball
Junior had back-to-back 37-point games in wins over Parkway West (42-38) and Philadelphia Electric Charter (47-26). Also had a combined 21 rebounds and nine steals in the two games. 

* Anthony Crews, Belle Vernon Football
Junior returned the opening kickoff of the PIAA Class 3A state championship 78 yards for a TD. Followed that with a 62-yard first quarter TD run as BV beat Northwestern Lehigh 38-7.

Week 17-19 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Jake Conroy, Ringgold (Monongahela) Wrestling
Junior went undefeated at the Wheeling Park Duals to improve to 22-0 with 18 pins this season.



* Emma Larkin, Geibel Catholic (Connellsville) Girls Basketball
Sophomore is averaging 31.9 points, which ranks ninth nationally. Dropped 42, 39 and 29 points in wins over Turkeyfoot Valley Area, Neighborhood Academy and Sto-Rox, respectively. Also had 20 rebounds and 15 steals in the three games. Also averaging 6.3 rebounds and 6.2 steals.

Week 20 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Nikosh Marston, Norristown Wrestling
Senior went 5-0 at the Battle of Valley Forge Duals at 139 pounds to remain unbeaten this season (22-0). Won his matches via tech fall (21-6), pin (1:50), pin (1:00), pin (1:20) and decision (4-3).
 
* Zachary Campbell, Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech (Philadelphia) Boys Basketball
Senior had 39 points in a 75-48 win over John Bartam. Also went over 1,000-career points with 19 in a 60-42 loss to the Haverford School. Averaging 18.3 points.
 
* Fareed Brown, Carver High School of Engineering & Science (Philadelphia) Boys Basketball
Sophomore had 32 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 63-55 win over Simon Gratz. Also had 30 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 90-85 loss to Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.

Week 21 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

 
* Isiah Petty, Serra Catholic (McKeesport) Boys Basketball
Senior recorded a triple-double (15 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists) in a 90-82 win over Aquinas Academy. Also had 24 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals in an 83-59 win over Riverview. Averaging 20.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.2 steals.
 
* Jocelyn Goldstein, Masterman (Philadelphia) Girls Basketball
Junior had 31 points, 19 rebounds, six blocks and five assists in a 63-46 win over Belmont Charter. Also had 37 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four blocks in a 53-14 win over Motivation and 21 points, eight boards and three steals in a 48-24 win over Kensington. Averaging 28.1 points (ranks 43rd nationally), 8.3 rebounds and 3.5 blocks.
 
* Logan Golle, Taylor Allderdice (Pittsburgh) Boys Basketball
Senior had 31 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 69-39 win over Obama Academy of International Studies and 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a 100-21 win over Westinghouse. Averaging 21.4 points, 4.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 steals.

Week 22 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Kristin Szymusiak, Blacklick Valley (Nanty Glo) Girls Basketball
Junior had 20 points, 12 steals, seven assists and six rebounds in a 65-42 win over Northern Cambria and 24 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 66-30 win over Ferndale. Averaging 17.9 points, 5.6 steals, 4.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists.

* Trey Keating, Nativity BVM (Pottsville) Boys Basketball
Sophomore had 28 points, five rebounds and four steals in a 71-45 win over Minersville and 27 points, five assists and three rebounds in an 80-40 win over Our Lady of Lourdes Regional. Averaging 23.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists.
 
* Ava Persichetti, River Valley (Blairsville) Girls Basketball
Junior had 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocks in a 62-24 win over Conemaugh Valley. Also had 24 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists in a 52-42 win over Cambria Heights. Averaging 21.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.2 steals.
 
* Dominic Deputy, Chestnut Ridge (New Paris) Wrestling
Sophomore went 5-0 at the Brookville Ultimate Duals at 114 pounds to improve to 29-0 this season. Won his five matches via major decision (11-0), pin (0:53), major decision (18-4), pin (0:41) and pin (1:53).

Week 23 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Bryce Nicholson, Turkeyfoot Valley Area (Confluence) Boys Basketball
Junior dropped 52 points in a 95-47 win over Ferndale to surpass 1,000-career points. Averaging 27.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.7 steals and 4.5 assists.
 
* Ty Keffer, Southmoreland (Alverton) Boys Basketball
Senior hit 10 3-pointers and scored 43 points in a 72-56 win over Valley.
 
* Ciara O'Hara, Kimberton Waldorf Girls Basketball
Junior had 84 points, 24 steals and 10 rebounds in wins over The City School, Villa Victoria Academy, Community Academy of Philadelphia and Valley Forge Baptist Academy.

Week 24 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Makayla Presser-Palmer, Northwestern (Albion) Girls Basketball
Sophomore registered her 11th double-double of the season with 24 points, 15 rebounds, three steals and three assists in a 47-37 win over Mercyhirst Prep. Averaging 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.6 assists.
 
* Qynne Demler, New Covenant Christian (Lebanon) Girls Basketball
Freshman had 82 points in wins over Harrisburg Christian and Lebanon Cahtolic and a loss to High Point Baptist Academy. Averaging 23.7 points, which ranks eight in the state.

Week 25 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Gabe Kearney, Carlisle Christian Academy Boys Basketball
Senior dropped 55 and 43 points in wins over Twin Valley Bible Academy and Blue Mountain Christian, respectively. Has scored 554 points this season and is averaging 27.7 points.
 
* Hailey Johnson, Monessen Girls Basketball
Senior pulled down 26 rebounds and had 10 points and six steals in a 59-37 win over Avella. Also had 17 rebounds in a 38-36 loss to Washington and 14 points and 13 rebounds in a 60-29 win over Mapletown. Has 919 career rebounds and 746 points. Averaging 10.1 points, 13.1 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.2 assists.
 
* Lily Palko, Sharpsville Girls Basketball
Junior has scored 100 points in wins over Rocky Grove, Union, Hickory and Slippery Rock. Averaging 17 points.

Week 26 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Charlie Mattas, Juniata Valley (Alexandria) Boys Basketball
Senior had 26 points and 11 rebounds in a 71-60 win over Glendale and 29 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and four steals in an 83-79 loss to Claysburg-Kimmel. Averaging 16.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals.
 
* Larissa Evans, Millville Girls Basketball
Junior had three double-doubles and tallied 64 points, 35 rebounds and 10 steals in a win over Northwest Area and losses to Neumann Regional Academy and Bucktail. Averaging 21.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.9 steals.

Week 27 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Sofia Meer, Central (Philadelphia) Girls Basketball
Junior recorded her seventh straight double-double with 18 points and 21 rebounds in a 53-41 win over Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech. Averaging 11.7 points and 12.0 rebounds.
 
* Jeremy Dietz, Conemaugh Valley (Johnstown) Boys Basketball
Junior had 31 points and 18 rebounds in a 73-50 win over Ferndale. Averaging 22.9 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
 
* Emma Miller, Millersburg Girls Basketball
Junior had 13 points and 20 rebounds in a 47-34 win over Fairfield. Averaging 11.2 points and 16.0 rebounds.

Week 28 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Noah Confer, Muncy Boys Basketball
Senior had a triple-double (23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists) in a 49-48 win over Neumann Regional Academy. Averaging 16.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.5 assists.
 
* Bella Magestro, Kennedy Catholic (Hermitage) Girls Basketball
Sophomore had 16 points, nine steals, seven assists and four rebounds in a 75-38 win over Union City. Also had 12 points and 10 assists in a 60-25 win over Maplewood and 15 points and four assists in a 73-33 win over West Middlesex. Averaging 13 points, 5.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals.

* Desiree Smucker, Linville Hill (Paradise) Girls Basketball
Junior had 35 points, six rebounds and three steals in a 66-38 win over Veritas Academy. Averaging 15.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.0 assists.

Week 29 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Gianna Gallucci, Bishop McCort (Johnstown) Girls Basketball
Senior had 25 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists in a 61-55 win over Serra Catholic. Averaging 21.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals. Has 1,599 career points and 603 rebounds.
 
* Rune Lawrence, Frazier (Perryopolis) Boys Wrestling
Senior and West Virginia recruit became just the 14th wrestler in PIAA history to win his fourth state title. Captured the 215-pound 2A title with three pins and a decision to finish this season 33-1 and his career 145-8.

Week 30-32 Pennsylvania High School Athletes of the Week

* Zane Conlon, Devon Prep Boys Basketball
Junior had 20 points and eight rebounds in a 60-56 win over Franklin Area in the PIAA Class 3A final.
 
* Josh Pratt, Aliquippa Boys Basketball
Junior had 36 points and five steals in a 74-52 win over Holy Cross in the PIAA Class 2A state final.
