The Mountain Range Mustangs will head out to take on the Brighton Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Range is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
While Mountain Range's victory against Poudre wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Impalas on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Impalas since September 14, 2019.
The team relied heavily on Abby Judd, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was MacKenzie King, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Mountain Range kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brighton). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Rangeview an 18-0 shutout on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Laikyn Lanzen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Riley Doherty was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Mya Arriaga was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Brighton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mountain Range, their record is now 6-11.
Mountain Range might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Brighton in their previous matchup on September 11th. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
