No. 3 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) improved its win streak to 12 with another road victory after beating Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) 26-7. Through the Panthers first four games they have won in Ohio, Texas, Florida and now South Carolina. Up next is a 4,800-plus mile trip to Hawaii to face Kahuku, the Aloha State's best team.
The Baltimore power has gone 46-2 since 2017 with the only two losses coming against
Bryce Young and Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) in 2019 and last season at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).
No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) finished its non-league schedule at 5-0 while outscoring the opposition 242-28. The Braves still have not trailed at any point in 2022 and begin Trinity League action Sept. 30 at Servite (Anaheim) before a huge Oct. 7 showdown against No. 2 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) at Santa Ana Bowl.
The Monarchs were idle last week and also finished non-league action 5-0, outscoring their opposition 186-48. Mater Dei is one of two teams in the country that has two wins against MaxPreps Top 25 opponents. They beat No. 8 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) 24-21 on Aug. 26 and took down No. 14 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) 43-20 a week later. Both wins on the road. They play at JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) in their Trinity League opener on Sept. 30.
Three new teams join the MaxPreps Top 25 after previously ranked Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.), Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) and Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) dropped out.
Langston Hughes (Fairburn, Ga.) checks in at No. 23 and last year's AAAAAA state runner-up is off to a 5-0 start outscoring the opposition 269-52. The Panthers are loaded with talent headlined by four-star tight end
Jelani Thurman (Ohio State), four-star offensive lineman
Bo Hughley (Georgia), four-star defensive back
Terrance Love (Auburn) and starting junior quarterback
Air Noland.
Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) is 5-0 and lands at No. 24. The Dragons have outscored the opposition 264-27. Riley Dodge's squad is led by the dynamic senior duo of starting quarterback
Kaden Anderson and running back
Owen Allen. Anderson has thrown for 4,043 yards and 47 touchdowns since becoming the starter last season and Allen is on pace to become the all-time leading rusher from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He is 1,492 yards away from breaking former Wylie East (Wylie) standout and current Arizona Cardinal
Eno Benjamin's record of 7,546 yards.
The last team to join the MaxPreps Top 25 is Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). The back-to-back 4A state champs have won three state titles over the last four years and are 5-0. They started the season with a quality win over DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) and have outscored its first five opponents 172-33. The Chiefs have a huge game this week as they host No. 13 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.).
