High school basketball players scored 50 or more points 221 times during the 2022-23 season with a single-game high of 81 points according to a list compiled by MaxPreps.
Keniel Velez of
Vine Christian Academy (Kissimmee, Fla.) had the top outing with his 81 points in late January during a 100-72 win over Hope Academy. His total is the 88th highest in high school basketball history and just the 11th game of 81 or more points this century.
Vinnie Cugini of
Aquinas Academy (Gibsonia, Pa.), the nation's leading scorer with an average of 42.7 points per game, had the most games of 50 or more points this year with seven.
Jamaria Clark of
Doyline (La.) was next with six.
Sources for the list include Paul S. Luchter's
luckyshow.org website, which has an exhaustive all-time list of players with 46 or more points. Other sources include the MaxPreps leaderboards and state association record books.
