A pair of strong pitching
performances in Louisiana's state playoffs by
Dutchtown (Geismar) ended the season for No. 3
Barbe (Lake Charles), which was looking for its second national
championship since 2021. The Buccaneers fell out of this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings as a result.
Barbe (38-3) had won a
national-best 36 straight games since losing to
The Bennett School (Houston, Texas) in the second game of the season.
Dutchtown (26-12) received strong outings from
Kason Johnson and
Taylor Tunnard on the mound in the first and third games of the series.

Tomball (Texas) and No. 2
Venice (Fla.) both won handily to maintain their top
spots.
In California, Orange Lutheran (Orange), which was No. 5 last
week, dropped to No. 8 after losing a 1-0 outing to Servite (Anaheim) in
Trinity League play. The Lancers fell to 9-4 in league play and will
finish second to St. John Bosco (Bellflower), who swept Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and finished in first place at 14-1 for the second straight season.
St.
John Bosco moved ahead of Orange Lutheran this week since it
will win the Trinity League by no less than three games.
Other
newcomers to the MaxPreps Top 25 this week include Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, Fla.), Brother Martin (New Orleans, La.), Rogers (Ark.) and Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.).
Game of the Week
Norco (Calif.) 1, Corona (Calif.) 0: After
losing to Corona in the first game of the three-game series last week,
Norco rebounded with a 1-0 win that culminated with a walk-off RBI
single by Jayden Serna in the bottom of the ninth that scored Codey Brown.
Game to Watch
No. 25 Trinity Christian Academy vs. Bishop Snyder (Jacksonville, Fla.), Friday. The
winner of this game could end up as the Class 3A champion in Florida.
The Conquerors and Cardinals have both been in the MaxPreps Top 25 this year with
Trinity Christian Academy re-entering the rankings this week. The two
teams played April 17 with the Conquerors winning 11-10 in the bottom
of the 13th inning on a sacrifice fly by All-American candidate
Brady Harris.
Pitcher of the Week Collier Carroll
threw a five-inning perfect game with 15 strikeouts for
Calallen (Corpus Christi, Texas) in a 13-0
playoff win over Hidalgo. Carroll threw just 68 pitches with 46 of them
going for strikes. Collier allowed just three foul balls and he had 12
swinging strike-three strikeouts. Carroll only went to a full count to
two batters.
Hitter of the Week Nate Davis
of
Bishop Moore (Orlando, Fla.), one of the top players in the nation,
had a big day in a 12-2 win over Mount Dora as he went 3-for-5 with
three runs scored and three RBI. He also had a triple and a home run.
Davis is batting .424 on the season with 40 runs, 32 RBI, seven home runs, five doubles and four triples.
Streaks Barbe lost its first game of its three-game set with
Dutchtown in the third round of the Louisiana Non-Select Division 1
playoffs, ending a 36-game win streak. No. 1 Tomball now has the
nation's longest active streak with 32 straight wins.
