High school football rankings: Buford moves up to No. 6 in MaxPreps Top 25 after 39-27 win over Mill Creek

Buford got a huge 39-27 win over Mill Creek (Hoschton) in a battle of the top two teams in Georgia on Friday. Five-star Alabama commit Justice Haynes had 20 carries for 216 yards and two touchdowns. He needed 156 yards going into the game to eclipse 7,000 career rushing yards and became the sixth running back in state history to reach that number. 

The Wolves moved up two spots to No. 6 in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings while Mill Creek dropped three spots to No. 21.

No. 11 Westlake (Austin, Texas) won its 47th straight game 29-10 while handing Dripping Springs its first loss of the season. The Chaparral defense forced five second-half turnovers with four coming in the final frame. The three-time defending state champs own the longest active winning streak in Texas.

No. 3 Central (Miami) improved to 7-0 with a dominant 53-7 win over Norland (Miami). The Rockets have held five straight opponents to seven points or less and have a huge matchup this week against 7-0 Columbus (Miami).

Junior quarterback Elijah Brown improved his record to 25-0, leading No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) to a 48-16 win over Orange Lutheran (Orange). He completed 12 of 19 passes for 220 yards and two scores to go with a 25-yard touchdown run. The Monarchs have two road games to close out their regular season at Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) and Servite (Anaheim) before the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs get underway in November.

With previously-ranked Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) losing to St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), there was room for a new team to join the MaxPreps Top 25. Liberty (Peoria, Ariz.) earned that spot after compiling a 6-0 record and outscoring opponents 258-48. The Lions have notable wins against Pinnacle (Phoenix), Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Basha (Chandler, Ariz.). MaxPreps Top 25 football rankings
