Rhode Island High School Basketball - Johnston crushes Toll Gate
January 18, 2024: Johnston, RI 02919 Johnston Panthers (Johnston, RI) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad bounce the visiting Toll Gate Titans (Warwick, RI), 76-46 in a league bout.
With the victory, Johnston upgrades its record to 11-1 on the campaign. The Panthers travel to Lincoln (Lincoln, RI) to play the Lions in a Division 2 bout on Monday, January 22. The Lions come into the bout with a record of 11-0. Lincoln won 62-52 in their recent league bout against Tolman (Pawtucket, RI)
Next up, the Titans play the Tolman Tigers (Pawtucket, RI) in a Division 2 bout, on Friday, January 19. Toll Gate will attempt to upgrade on its 1-9 season record. The Tigers come into the bout with a 11-2 record after their 62-52 league loss to Lincoln (Lincoln, RI).
First Quarter
Despite the Titans getting solid play by their two forwards, Brayden Healey and Dylan Perreault, the Panthers four three pointers for a 18-11 lead.
Second Quarter
The Panthers took advantage of 19 first half turnovers to open up a 41-17 lead at halftime.
Third Quarter
Jordan Brazeau and Dylan Perreault combined for 10 points in the third quarter to help the Titans cause.
Fourth Quarter
Toll Gate was able to outscore the Panthers, 15-13, in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers, who shot 11/28 from the three point stripe, were led by Jayden Testa (19 points, five three-pointers), Neari Vasquez (13 points, two three-pointers) and Mike Carlino (10 points, two three-pointers).
