March 10, 2025: Pacoima, CA 91331 The Bert Corona Charter Knights prevailed the visiting Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars volleyball squad by a final score of 3-1 in Monday's non-league game.
Next up, the Knights confront the Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers (Sun Valley, CA) in a non-league game, on Friday, March 14. Bert Corona Charter will attempt to advance on its 2-0 season record. The Pioneers enter the game with a 1-2 record after their 3-0 non-league win over Magnolia Science Academy 5 (Reseda, CA).
The Cougars (0-5) will now prepare for their game against Panorama (Panorama City, CA). The Pythons enter the non-league game with a 6-4 record. In their last game, Panorama gained a win over Canoga Park (Canoga Park, CA), 3-1, in a league game.
Match Summary
A 1-7 start in set 1 came back to haunt Lake Balboa in a tough loss in the opener. The Cougars closed to 10-11 then took & lost the lead 6 times. They fought off 2 game points before coming up short. The Rocky Balboas started better in set 2 up early 3-1. Bert Corona made it 4 all & the teams again traded points taking it to 7 all. The Cougars opened up their first big lead at 12-7. That frittered away as the Knights came back 17 all then led 17-20. The teal & black then made it 21 all & went up 23-21. Drama at 23-22 before LBCP pulled away to win. Our peak, but too giddy, too high, too soon. Trailing only 5-7 the Cougars dug a hole 5-14 which ballooned to 6-19. Set 3 easily to BCC. After a 6 all start in set 4, Bert Corona opened up a 9-6 lead which they would never relinquish & continued to open up. Only 5 of Lake Balboa's points came from our own serving side. BCC sided out the Cougar serve 11 out of 16 times. The alarm bells needed to go off at 6-9. Step up when it matters or lose.
