April 4, 2025: Lake Balboa, CA 91406 In Friday's league match, the Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers (Sun Valley, CA) volleyball squad prevailed the host Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars (Lake Balboa, CA), by a count of 3-0.

Match Summary
Lake Balboa hung tough at 13 all in set 1 but the Pioneers were still in striking range to break open a 17-13 lead. An 8-4 closing kick for Sun Valley ended the set. A 6-3 start for the Cougars in set 2 melted away as Sun Valley surged ahead 8-6. The Lake show clawed back to within 1 at 8-9 before the hammer fell & the Cougars were down 8-17. Sun Valley just needed to trade points & sideout 8-7 for the rest of the set to win. The young Cougars took the loss very hard & had nothing to open set 3. After only the 2nd rotation, the Pioneers led 8-1. The bulge grew to 14-3 SVM until it was a blowout score of 24-12 Pioneers. This was when the plants & flowers bloomed around the Cougadome & the choir began to sing in Latin. All season long they have been told by their coach to play their hardest when they are either about to win or lose, hold nothing back. This time they responded. 10 times Lake Balboa denied Sun Valley match point, a valiant goal line stand before giving up the last point.
