California High School Volleyball - Magnolia Science Academy Van Nuys over Lake Balboa College Prep
March 21, 2025: Lake Balboa, CA 91406 In Friday's league challenge, the visiting Magnolia Science Academy Van Nuys Mustang volleyball team scored a 3-1 victory over the Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars.
The Mustang (4-1) will now prepare for their challenge against Sun Valley Magnet (Sun Valley, CA). The Pioneers enter the Central Valley challenge with a 5-2 record. In their last challenge, Sun Valley Magnet beat Chavez (San Fernando, CA), 3-1, in a non-league challenge.
Next, the Cougars meet the Valor Academy (Van Nuys, CA) in a Central Valley challenge, on Monday, March 24. Lake Balboa College Prep will attempt to upgrade on its 0-8 season record.
Match Summary
Lake Balboa wins set 1! This is where the roller coaster started to plunge. Set 2 opened with a tenuous start 5-4 Cougars before yielded a gouging run of 6 points to a very determined MSAVN team, 5-11 Mustangs. 2 rotations later it was 20-7 'Stangs, a very difficult deficit to overcome. An 8-5 finish was too little too late for LBCP. The defending D V champs opened up a 10-4 lead in set 3. The Rocky Balboas finally started landing some punches & drew close at 11-12. Mag Sci #1 went nuclear in the next rotation & blasted away to a 19-11 lead. The Mustangs traded points 6-6 in the stretch to easily win. The Cougars again started gamely at 8-6 in the opening rounds of set 4 but couldn't hold it before tying at 9 all. MSAVN lead 11-9, but the Cougars squeaked ahead 13-12. Another punishing rotation found the Mustangs on the open range at 17-13. LBCP closed again to 17-19. The Mustangs went for the knockout leading 23-17 but were pushed 22-23 before winning it all by 3.
