Vela Sabercats (Edinburg, TX) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad bounce the visiting Pioneer Diamondbacks (Mission, TX), 73-49 in a league bout.

With the victory, Vela upgrades its record to 18-5 on the campaign. The Sabercats travel to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial (Alamo, TX) to play the Wolverines in a 5A Region IV District 31 bout on Friday, January 5. The Wolverines come into the bout with a record of 11-12. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial won 54-39 in their recent league bout against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest (Pharr, TX)

Next up, the Diamondbacks play the Sharyland Rattlers (Mission, TX) in a 5A Region IV District 31 bout, on Friday, January 5. Pioneer will attempt to upgrade on its 12-10 season record.
