New York High School Basketball - Catholic Central over Schalmont
January 26, 2022: Schenectady, NY 12306 Fans at Wednesday's non-league challenge between the Catholic Central Crusaders (Troy, NY) and the host Schalmont Sabres (Schenectady, NY), saw Catholic Central's basketball squad overcome Schalmont by a tally of 64-47.
With the victory, Catholic Central improves its record to 9-3 on the campaign. The Crusaders travel to Mohonasen (Schenectady, NY) to play the Warriors in a non-league challenge on Friday, January 28. The Warriors come into the challenge with a record of 2-5. Mohonasen lost 68-51 in their recent league challenge against Lansingburgh (Troy, NY)
Next up, the Sabres play the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Indians (Ravena, NY) in a non-league challenge, on Tuesday, February 1. Schalmont will attempt to improve on its 2-8 season record. The Indians come into the challenge with a 3-10 record after their 58-42 league loss to Cobleskill-Richmondville (Cobleskill, NY).
First Quarter
CCHS hit 4 threes to open the first from 3 different players, S Roberson was 2 of 2. The Sabres S Willis and I Smith each had 4 points and CCHS was up 18 - 13 after one.
Second Quarter
The scoring slowed in the second but the Sabres closed 7 - 0 in the final 1:30 of the half as I Smith added 7 more the Sabres cut the lead to 25 - 22 at the half.
Third Quarter
CCHS increased the pace of the game C Gemmill and D Moore each had 6 points but 5 different Sabres scored to keep CCHS with in striking distance.
Fourth Quarter
Efficiency in the fourth with great defensive spurts allowed the Crusaders to extend the lead. D Moore had 12 and S Roberson added 6. CCHS was 8 -12 from the floor and 6 - 8 from the foul line in the 4th
